Charts showing gender analysis of SF&F award finalists
Please read the
before contacting me with
any questions, comments, rants, etc about these charts. (NB: I'd love any
feedback people might have, but there's no point in wasting both of our time
enquiring about something that's already covered there, issues that
are already known about and in hand, etc.)
In particular, please be aware that the incomplete datasets used, and automated
code that processes them, will lead to some cases of indirect misgendering.
By "indirect", I mean that whilst there are no cases where these pages say
something like "Person X is a particular gender"; rather, the charts effectively
state that for a paricular award/category in a particular year, so many
finalists were male, female or non-binary/genderqueer,
and if you were to drill down into
who those finalists actually were - which is easily discoverable on
etc - then you might find that the figures shown here are incorrect.
To anyone affected or upset by these errors, my apologies.
goes into more detail about the sources
and algorithms used to determine gender, how and where errors may occur, and
how these errors might be rectified in future updates of these charts.
